Chema Technology Shares Calumet’s Commitment to Continuous Improvement and Outstanding Service

Supplier Spotlight: Chema Tech

Led by owner and president, Hubert Metzger, Chema Technology Inc. has partnered with Calumet Electronics Corporation since 2016. After Chema installed the first plating system at Calumet that year, the quality and efficiency of CEC’s plating improved and the maintenance and downtime of the line was significantly reduced.

Metzger’s experience with plating goes back decades. He started out as an engineer, researching and introducing new plating methods for the industry. He founded Chema Technology in 1984. Throughout his career, Metzger has been passionate about continuous improvement and keeping up with evolving technologies — a quality he has in common with Calumet Electronics. And like CEC, he and Chema Technologies are just as invested in customer service.

“Hubert and his team provide us with excellent service and support”

Elden Hendrickson, Jr.
Calumet Electronics Vice President/CPO

“Hubert has an industry-wide reputation for his outstanding expertise and his ability to troubleshoot any problems that crop up. One thing that sets Chema apart is their commitment to research and development. They stay on the leading edge of quality and automation technology.”

From high-speed copper plating to electrolytical dechroming, Chema Technology first helped the rotogravure industry remain competitive and profitable. In 2008, Metzger and his team also began working with circuit boards. They quickly proved to the industry that the quality and consistency of the boards’ plating distribution was a huge improvement.

Metzger’s innovative DisCoP System — a cylinder electroplating process that uses non-dissolvable anodes — has received multiple patents. The system eliminates conventional titanium basket and copper nuggets, doing away with the resistance in the electroplating process. It results in finer grain and smoother structure.

“We have a total of four systems running at Calumet, including via fill,” said Hendrickson. “Between De Nora as the coated anode company, MacDermid as the chemical company and Chema Technology, Inc. with their DisCoP System and copper oxide, I believe it’s a win-win situation all around.”
