Engineer Spotlight: Mayra values Calumet’s role in the local community
Following a seven-month internship while a senior at Michigan Technological University, Lee Mayra started working full-time for Calumet Electronics in December of 2005. After 16 years, Mayra is now Calumet’s Senior Research and Development Engineer.
Dr. Meredith LaBeau, Director of Process Engineering, describes Lee as a great asset to the engineering and technology team and a beacon of the future for Calumet. “As Calumet prepares for continued growth, it is in good hands with the forward-thinking production realization team,” said LaBeau. “This team is led by Lee Mayra, who applies proven engineering and science methods to develop new processes that scale with Calumet’s demand.”
As a growing but smaller community-based company, Lee says he’s afforded the opportunity to work closely on projects with many talented coworkers, suppliers, manufacturing teams, and upper management.
“These different perspectives have helped me grow both personally and professionally, gaining a greater understanding and appreciation for manufacturing companies,” said Mayra. “I am most proud of the impact the work I do has on our local community. By advancing our technology and product offerings, it helps the company grow and continue to offer high tech careers to those who like living in the U.P.”
