Risky Business

Calumet Electronics warehouse

A unique pledge to accelerated growth and customer diversity has paved the way for a fleet of field professionals representing Calumet Electronics. The recruiting process was centered around independent reps who are driven to enrich service, support, and solutions for their regional customer base. Six years into this process, overall team performance has proven to be a viable and sustainable engine for growth with enriched margins.

Today, the team is comprised of eight firms supporting the electronic market on behalf of Calumet. Each firm supports electronic companies in various regions which include states from the East Coast to West, including Maine and Florida. The team is responsible for developing over one hundred new customers with combined revenue north of $5 million in less than five years.

The most stunning example of rep contribution, byond expectation, is CRP Technical Solutions: the team supporting Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana. Consisting of three former electronics engineers, Chris Platt, John Barnes, and Steve Minhinnett, CRP is very specialized in military-rated connectors, yet knew nothing about PCB’s. Recognizing CRP’s drive and dedication to their regional market, they were recruited in 2014.

Contrary to the established industry product-sell, I, along with the CRP team, framed the company, community, and a sales strategy unique to Calumet Electronics. Following this unconventional and risky approach, CRP was soon winning the trust and confidence of prime defense companies throughout the tri-state marketplace.

Entering 2020, CRP Technical Solutions manages key primes and brings approximately $2 million a year in new business on behalf of Calumet. Chris, John, and Steve made a choice and took a chance on a “safe, secure, and sustainable” community vision and business model, and have become Calumet’s number one rep firm in America. Congratulations team CRP!
